Games to Play at Elderly Birthday Parties

Monday, January 31st, 2011

One unique thing about birthdays is that everyone has them. No matter how young or old a person is, a birthday is something that comes around once every year.

While birthday party games may be thought of more for children, activities at birthday parties for the elderly make those special days more enjoyable. Elderly birthday party games unify party guests and bring laughter to a birthday celebration.

Bingo
It may be a stereotype, but there is a reason that Bingo is a popular game at senior centers and assisted living facilities worldwide–because the elderly enjoy it. Bingo is a good birthday party game for the elderly because everyone can play it while sitting down.

Bingo also holds the interest of party guests without moving too fast. Bingo games are available at most warehouse retailers. Everyone enjoys playing for prizes, and a bingo game at an elderly birthday party is no different.

Gift cards at book retailers or restaurants are good choices. Another positive aspect of Bingo is that both men and women play it, so everyone at an elderly birthday party can participate. (more…)

Kids’ Birthday Party Decorative Ideas

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

It’s that time again! Your child is about to celebrate a birthday. These days, parents go above and beyond for their children’s birthday parties. Finding new ideas for party decorations is always a challenge, but we have a few ideas that are inexpensive and creative.

Princess Party Decorations
1. Most little girls would love a princess-themed party. Decorations for this type of party can be over the top or simple. Line the entryway with a red-carpet style rug.

Decorate windows with metallic fabric curtains for a ballroom look. Create a balloon arch to the entrance of your patio if you are going to decorate the backyard as well.

A pink throne can be created by draping pink fabric and gold tassels over a living room chair. Decorate tables with little vases of flowers and glittery confetti. If the party is at night, white twinkle lights can make the front yard or backyard look magical.

Jungle Party Decorations
2. A jungle party can be created fairly inexpensively. First, line the ceiling with green crepe paper to create a jungle feel. Cover the furniture with inexpensive green fabric and line the couches with stuffed animals.

For table toppers, use colorful tablecloths and tie balloon bouquets to stuffed animals such as zebras, lions and tigers. Purchase jungle paper plates, napkins and cups.

Place a pair of toy binoculars at every child’s place setting. If you have jungle puzzles, place them in the entertainment area for play and for decoration. For extra decor, line the walls with posters of zebras, lions and tigers.

Cowboy Party Decorations
3. The cowboy/western style party works well outdoors. Begin by creating a sign for the front of the house that states, “Welcome to the (child’s name) Ranch.” Line your fence line with lassos and cowboy hats.

Create a western town out of large cardboard boxes. By creating a general store, a jail and a post office, you will have very original decor. Use box cutters for windows and doors.

Spray paint the boxes to add color. For table decor, purchase fake cacti to top denim table coverings. If your budget allows and your backyard is large enough, rent a pony for a day. Lastly, purchase bales of hay from a local farm to decorate your backyard. Tie balloons to cowboy boots on the bales of hay.

About Children’s Birthday Parties

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

Celebrating children’s birthdays can be as fun and entertaining for parents as it is for their kids. Birthday cakes, balloons and themes are generally popular at children’s parties, and parents have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the parents of their children’s friends. Read on to find out more about children’s birthday parties.

Time Frame
1. Children tend to have early bedtimes, so a good time to celebrate a child’s birthday is early afternoon. This also opens up opportunities for outdoor activities both at home and at venues such as amusement parks and arcades. Older children may prefer to have later affairs in the form of slumber parties.

Types
2. Children’s birthday parties can have a wide range of themes, from Halloween costume parties, to dress-up parties, to slumber parties, to parties that represent characters from their favorite TV shows and movies, like Hannah Montana and Batman.

Pay close attention to what your child likes and communicate with him about what kind of party he wants to have. If your child is not sure, give him some ideas.

Location
3. Location is an important aspect of a child’s birthday party. After parents decide what type of birthday party to have, they have to decide where to have it.

Birthday parties at a child’s home leave lots of opportunity for themes and decorations, and they can be a more cost-effective option for parents on a budget.

But parents can also choose to have the party at a family-friendly amusement park, an arcade or kid-friendly entertainment spots like Chuck E. Cheese. Choosing to have a birthday party at an outside location can take some of the stress of party planning off of parents as well. (more…)
